CO-WORKER: How much younger than you would someone have to be before you wouldn't date her?

ME: That's like asking me how I would spend a billion dollars.

CO-WORKER: ...you have a billion dollars?

Back when I was single, I would use "The Seven Test" as my over/under line... was she born in a year with a 7 in it? Anything later and it was no go.

(Note: I met my wife in 2002. Perhaps this standard is no longer useful.)

So, that would mean that in 2002, you would have dated women who were five years old (born 1997), fifteen years old (born 1987), between 23 and 32 years old (born 1970-1979), thirty-five years old (born 1967), and, presumably, between 302 and 203 years old (born in the 1700s).

I think 18 years. I did 16 years under and it was... well, I kept wanting to tell him to GROW THE FUCK UP.

"No more than ten years in either direction" would have been my answer, were I attempting to answer the question.

You know, not to set myself up for a barrage of self-loathing denials, but was this co-worker by any chance (a) female and (b) more than a couple of years younger than you?

Because, you know.

I'm just saying.

(a) Yes, and (b) I think so. But (c) no.

Is this the officemate to whom you offered that one religious book and she replied that she already had a copy, but that she'd take it and give it as a gift?

Half one's age, plus seven years, is a good rule of thumb.

Five years younger or older. I tend toward younger because I can only imagine that people in their 40's would have no patience for my immature shenanigans.

I don't even have patience for my own immature shenanigans.

I'm with thaitea on the 5 yr rule since the last one was 6 years younger and really immature
I keep thinking about this exchange because it is HILARIOUS. It's still making me laugh.

How I wish I believed that maturity was a function of age
I know, right? For me the post wasn't about the question, but the absurdity of the exchange.
