ONE THING

Speaking as a gun owner, here is why it is stupid that so many people are buying guns post-Obama.

1. If Obama is going to confiscate guns*, you’re just giving him more guns to confiscate, thus wasting your money.

1a. Unless you intend to get into a gunfight with federal law enforcement agents, in which case you will die, and are still wasting your money.

2. If Obama is not going to confiscate guns, then you have nothing to worry about and are buying more guns than you need, thus wasting your money.

3. This leaves only the people who have waited until now to buy their first gun, which means they’re buying at a peak panic time and are probably getting gouged. The smart thing to do would have been to buy just prior to the election.

There you have it: proof once again that everyone is stupid except me.

ANOTHER THING

Hey, New York: what’s the best time to visit there?

*: He isn't.

Obvs I won't be there, but I think the last week of April in NYC is usually when it gets beautiful there. NYC has two beautiful weeks in the spring and two beautiful weeks in the fall.

For me, the best times in this city are the spring and fall. YOu do not -- DO NOT! -- want to be here during the holidays if you can possibly help it. It's a fucking madhouse, worse than usual. Ditto June.

I would say either October to November (which you just missed) or like, March through early May, although April can be a bit damp and rainy.

Do not come to New York between December 17 and Christmas, because I will be on vacation and thus disinclined to hang out with you.

It likely wouldn't be until next year, and probably not until summer at least.

Also, before anyone accuses me of nuttiness, I actually like brisker, windier weather, hence my inclusion of March in the above opinion. Although we're talking late March in any event.

Oh, and I’m sorry to fill up your entire comments section, but September/October is NYMF (New York Musical Theater Festival), and in 2009 there may very well be a show in that festival which you had a hand in the creation of, just saying. I mean, if that were to influence your travel plans at all, which I would totally understand if it didn’t.

"A hand"? "A hand"? WHAT KIND OF HAND

Anyway, those dates are much more likely. We'll see.

The best time to visit New York is right after Obama threatens to take away your New York.

I don't know, if federal law enforcement agents shoot anything like most cops, you might not die. OH SNAP.

But nah, I agree with you. I think most of these ppl are buying guns b/c they're afraid of the coloreds taking over, tho? In which case, we can only hope they shoot themselves in the foot. Repeatedly. Or just hunker down in some kind of shelter for the next 50 years or so.

Apparently my father decided to buy a gun just before the election--specifically because he was afraid all the black people in the neighborhood would riot and go on a white-killing spree. Funny thing is, I don't recall him ever being racist before.

April or Late Sept/Early October for NY. Weather is decent, people are pretty mellow. For NYC and all.

You neglected to mention barrel length, if it is blacked, steel, or chrome, and the weight of the trigger pull. Also - hollow points, eagle claws, magnum loads, or what.

I'm just saying if I'mina die, I wanna know everything.

A 686 is chambered in .357 Magnum. It can also shoot .38 special cartridges.

I thought the 686 was in .357. I mean, you could shoot .38 from it, but.
