Superwhorin'

I feel I have been falling behind on my whoring lately. So what have I been up to recently? Well, I've been losing clients like mad, thank you very much collapsing economy, but I've been staying afloat thanks to trade magazine work which you're not important enough to see. In the meantime:

* I taste-tested some paralyzingly good liquor.

* I swapped recipes with Ted Nugent.

* I thought about what movies I might like to see at the the South By Southwest Film Festival, and then I went to see them.

* I contributed to inventories about comic book movies, movies about poverty, and retooled TV shows.

* I helped review comics, and teach the world about spy shows.

* I watched Kings, the fascinating, probably doomed new Biblical drama starring Ian McShane.

* I interviewed Zoë Bell, the charming stuntwoman-turned-actress</a>.

* I recorded a radio show about the depiction of wealth in popular culture.

Now I'm going to go sleep for 15 hours.

I both admire and hate you right now.

With a workload like that, I guess chronic insomnia is your only option.

Pfffft. That's nothing, son. You need to find more work to fill that ample free time!

I'd love to see the list of questions you really wanted to ask Nugent.

("You must get this a lot... are you related to Phil?")

we give up what we want when we want power
I had never heard of Kings until reading the first paragraph of your review, at which point I stopped reading and went to Hulu. Just finished watching.

I'm frankly amazed that a show with a concept that inventive got the green light. Perhaps the creators played up the soap opera aspects when pitching it ("it's like Dallas, but with a real monarch!"). Still, I'm impressed.

And I'm with you: the religion comes off as serious without being preachy. God isn't the source of morality - he's the source of power. You do God's will not out of love of charity, but because the charity he seeks is the only warranty on your kingship.

Plus, I already love the courtly intrigue. Sooo much.
