Geekquake

I saw the new X-Men movie last night. I have many, many meetings to go to today, so I'll try to have a longer, nerdier post about it later on, but:

I liked it.

THINGS TO LIKE ABOUT THE NEW X-MEN MOVIE

- Far less Cyclops, who is boring and lame
- Far more Wolverine, who is not
- Movie Mystique far more of a bad-ass than irritating comic book Mystique
- Pyro much more interesting in movie than in comic
- Gratuitous Colossus action
- Minimal Kitty Pryde
- Obviously laying groundwork for Dark Phoenix in X3
- Some pretty damn cool fight scenes
- Mastermind, while vastly different from cool comic book version, still pretty neat
- Magneto killing people
- Wolverine killing people
- Rebecca Romijn-Stamos mostly naked making out with a fat guy
- Rebecca Romijn-Stamos mostly naked in general
- Character development pretty good despite huge cast
- Joss Whedon not involved in any way
- Decent special effects
- Some pretty funny, non-obvious jokes in dialogue and action
- Lots of geek shout-outs
- A couple of truly memorable scenes
- Movie was just overall superior to first X-Men movie, which was itself pretty good

THINGS NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE NEW X-MEN MOVIE

- No Sentinels
- Nightcrawler’s incredibly bad accent
- Colossus talks like he’s from south Jersey
- Pacing is terrible
- Crummy, loud, flashy opening credit sequence
- Professor X can now apparently stop time for some reason
- Although not seen, Jubilee and Gambit are mentioned, leaving open the possibility they will appear in a movie someday
- Not enough Rebecca Romijn-Stamos mostly naked
