Let's all go to the movies

I went to a critic's screening of the new Michel Gondry/Charlie Kaufman movie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, yesterday. Gotta save a full review for the people paying me, but suffice to say, wait for this one -- it's absolutely worth it. Best movie I've seen all year. Visually fascinating, technically accomplished, and with a typically intricate and intelligent Kaufman script, it also has a surprising amount of emotional weight...in fact, it's a goddamn heartbreaker. The supporting cast, especially David Cross and Mark Ruffalo, is excellent, and my girl Kate Winslet is stunning in the female lead...and, amazingly given how much I hate the guy, I liked Jim Carrey in the male lead. It's the first thing I've seen him in where he managed to sublimate the urge to be JIM CARREY and just let the role guide his performance. Great movie, folks, I swears it.

I got an interview with Gondry & Kaufman next and I gotta think of things to ask them that don't sound retarded. It's tough interviewing people whose art you really admire without sounding like a fanboy, really. Bleah.
