Say, how's that war on terror goin'?

Should you ever wonder if this is anything but a pretext to keep us in a nice comfy expensive nervous little security state for the next eternity or so, please consider this news, from today's AP wire:

KARLSRUHE, Germany - A German court on Thursday overturned the world's only conviction for the Sept. 11 attacks and ordered a retrial for a Moroccan found guilty last year of aiding the Hamburg cell of suicide hijackers.

Mounir el Motassadeq's conviction on more than 3,000 counts of accessory to murder and membership in a terrorist organization was flawed because the lower court failed to properly consider the absence of evidence from a key witness who is in U.S. custody, the Federal Criminal Court ruled.

"The case is to be sent back to another panel of judges at the Hamburg court for a new trial and decision," presiding Judge Klaus Tolksdorf said in reading the verdict.

Three years. And in all the whole wide world, one conviction. And it was just overturned because the United States is withholding possibly exculpatory evidence.

Hey, when's the next Orangemas scheduled?

House-cleanin' Thursday

Charlie Kaufman/Michel Gondry interview's in the can. Eternal Sunshine, Girl Next Door and Taking Lives reviews are done, and no more for at least a week or two. Cover story's done. Restaurant reviews can wait for the weekend. TCJ pitch in the mail, short story pitch in the mail, McS pitch in the mail. I HAVE NOTHING TO DO TONIGHT. I can finally get some rest! Relax and have some fun!

Except that I have no money at all, so I can't really go anywhere or do anything. Also, I still have to write tonight's Ludic Log about some retarded comic book phenomenon or another (taking suggestions, gang...) and I really should work on my crappy novel, finally. BUT ALL MY FREELANCE STUFF IS FUCKING DONE FOR THE MOMENT. Whew. Maybe I'll just get some goddamn sleep for once.

Any of you nerds out there read anything by the Fort Thunder collective? My e-pal Chris Lanier wrote an article in the new High Hat about them and made them sound pretty intriguing, so I might pick some up this weekend, but I'm always down for a second opinion.

This weekend's shopping spree plans: comics, groceries, and either a new tattoo or some clothes from the Army/Navy store on Belmont. This after I finally pay some fucking bills. Hey, my car is almost completely paid off! Just in time for it to break down!

And now, for no particular reason, here's the proposed-but-subject-to-change menu for my upcoming St. Patricks Day party:

- seafood chowder with potato and spring onions
- piperonata
- champ
- baked pasta with Irish cheese and stout
- Dublin lawyer
- corned beef & cabbage
- pan-grilled mackarel with parsley butter
- strawberry & Bailey's fool
