Today’s Ludic Log: another dull (and not particularly funny) entry about superheroes. Sorry about this, gang; just clearing out some cobwebs in my head. This isn't so much amusing or interesting as it is a very painful re-creation of the thought processes I go through while working on my crappy novel.
Hey, speaking of my crappy novel and things I write that no one is interested in, I had this great idea for a book to work on after I finish said crappy novel. It's the only idea I've ever had for a book I might like to write that isn't fiction or humor.
It would be a critical theory book, blending close-reading semiotics a la Barthes' "S/Z" with cultural-studies riffing, about the Lee/Kirby run of the Fantastic Four.
I can only think of a few problems with this:
1. No mainstream publisher would touch it, because it has zero commercial potential and lacks a certain popular resonance.
2. No academic publisher would touch it, because it is about comic books and because I am a high school dropout.
3. Even if someone published it, no one would buy it or read it.
