How old I'm getting

So I'm going to see the New Year tonight (it's at Schuba's, should anyone care to join me), and the show doesn't start until 10PM. Which means the opening band goes on at 10PM, and they're the first of two, which means the Kadane brothers will probably hit the stage around 12:30AM, 1AM. And I have to go pick up a car at the airport at 8AM Saturday morning and drive to Mad Town. When I learned of the late start, I actually thought to myself, "Well, maybe I can catch a nap before the show".

Sigh.

So long, youth. Adieu, rock & roll lifestyle. Arrivederci, being the kind of person who actually does things and goes places. Hello, adult diapers.

Oldy postscript/more whorin'

By the way, my piece on the New Year can be found here, or in the latest issue of UR in garish orange street boxes everywhere in Chicago. The latest issue also features my piece on Nora O'Connor and my summer recommended reading list, but unfortunately they're not online, so I'll try and put them up on my site next week.

Super extra-pathetic bonus whorin'

The new issue of the High Hat goes to press this weekend. The whole thing's not up yet, but because I love slutting my work like a four-dollar crack whore you all so much, here's where you can find a sneak preview of two of the three pieces I have in the issue.

My ridiculously overlong piece on the Firesign Theatre can be found here. Well-traveled terrain and won't set the world on fire, but I like to think it's a decent piece of writing.

For you seebelow types, you can find my discursus on/suck-up of Bendis & Oeming's Powers series here.

I have one more piece in the issue, a remembrance of the Minutemen, which I think is the best of the three, but it ain't up yet. I'll keep you posted because I know you care so much.
