why do I hate the red sox so much?

The Red Sox are the new Yankees

that does explain it perfectly and yet annoyingly (but I know it's not your catchphrase so I don't blame you)

No, my catchphrase is "You'll be sorry once the robots are in charge!"

And sorry to throw a cliche at you, but there's no way around it. I liked the way they outlined it on Deadspin (quoted):

1. Recent post-season success
2. Bloated payroll
3. Aloof, superior fanbase
4. Aging and/or worthless pitching (with Eric Gagne playing Roger Clemens)
5. Offense predicated entirely on home runs.

I couldn't have been happier when the Sox won in 2004, but now, they're just another east coast media darling to me. I'm rooting for the Rockies even with the spooky christian thing.

I haev to admit I don't read Deadspin unless a team I love is doing well.

Let's also not forget #6, overinflated sense of team lore.

Oh and #7, annoying celebrity fans.

Including Rudy "Hey I was a lifelong Yankee fan until I decided to suck up to the Granite State" Giuliani!

3. Aloof, superior fanbase

I think it'll take at least 5 more WS wins before the Sox fanbase reaches the level of complacency that the Yankees fanbase has.

No, what the Red Sox fanbase has is hate, so much black black hate in their hearts.

I'm rooting against the Rockies. Because I will never, ever root for the Red Sox again.

the sox fans do go on and on about their 2004 victory; and the yankee/ red sox media overcoverage could create a serious state of hate. but if and when the cubs win, their fans and the chicago media will be at least 3/4 as insufferable.

but i hate the yankees and i loved big papi when he was with minnesota, so i dig on the red sox.

oh tell me about it. I"m a white sox fan and I wanted to puke a few years ago with all this The Red Sox are the Cubs! bullshit.

Mr. Met!

yeah... the Red Sox reached a few world series!

(oooh, dig!)

I do think that while annoying, if you are on the east coast and watch Yankee fans in their cocknoxious environment and their "26 rings" shirts and their bandwagon Wall Street douche fans and their Jersey SUV fans and the damned entitled children with their entitled fathers...

I can't hate anything in the way I hate the Yankees.
zulkey
Oct. 25th, 2007 03:56 pm (UTC)
for me it's the Cubs...well the Cubs fans. Doesn't help that I live within spitting distance of Wrigley. I used to hate the Yankees badly too but I was dating an insufferable Yankee fan at the time. Once you excise that cancer life is easier.

see, I thought you might be a Cubs fan or something so I didn't go as far as to call them frickin' losers. Oh, since moving here I hate the Cubs. Whine whine whine. And their fans? I tried to bike through the area on game night and it made me think violent thoughts.

But the Cubs don't have very much to be proud of... and yet they keep woofing. They are such a poorly constructed club, every single year. Met fans have '86 and some playoff runs. The Cubs fans bitch about Bartman (when Alex Gonzalez' error in that inning was much more egregious) and Billy Goats. Billy Goats? Oh sod off.

i have a Yankee fan friend. I would say that I respect him but I do seem to greet him with insults and violence... Actually, a guy I used to work with was actually a nice guy AND a Yankee fan! He is a credit to his people. He's so well-spoken, too.

Seriously, though, it has to be disturbing to be a fan of a team with so many bandwagoner turdbags. Those are the people that really get my dander up.

Hey, every team has a large following, and within that following is a small (2% maybe) group of fans who don't turn into complete douches when the subject of their team comes up. It's something every fanbase has to bear.

Oct. 25th, 2007 05:32 pm (UTC)
hey, my yankee hate is what keeps me going in this cold cold world! no logic allowed!
It's true; though the preponderance of Yankee douches is mind boggling. Met fans have a seriously ignorant portion, rivaling the worst of the Yanks and even the Phillies. Maybe the Yankee ones are louder. Or the fanbase is so large that we all see more pinstriped morons.

Studies show that there is no bigger bandwagon than the "Red Sox are the new Yankees" bandwagon.

I mean, really. Would Jeter, Posada and Rivera ever dance like this?

This is my favorite part of the first article:

"We're a no-excuse ballclub," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. "Always have been. Always will be. We got outplayed tonight."

"No excuse" apparently doesn't mean "no bullshit." Giving up seven runs in the fifth inning is not getting outplayed, that's not actually playing. "Outplayed" is both teams giving it their all and one of 'em squeaking out, having your opponent set a new World Series record for runs scored in Game One is pretty distinctly different.

Think about it, the Rockies only got one more run in Game One than I did, and I wasn't even playing.

Go Red Sox!
I have to root against the Rockies for the following three reasons:

1) those shitty sleeveless uniforms that I hate with a fiery passion. Jesus, you're in the major leagues. Dress it up a little bit!

2) The God thing. I refuse to believe that God is rooting either for the Colorado Rockies or the Detroit Lions, though their players would have me think otherwise

3) Because if they lose after their eight day layoff, then it will make my Tigers loss last year more palatable. I can blame it all on the layoff and not the fact that they just kinda rolled over for an inept NL team.
