My Name Is Fatty And I Am a Comics Geek

A while back, I "commissioned" calamityjon to draw me a couple of pictures. As I always do when such an opportunity arises, I asked him to sketch me some studies of characters from my own ridiculously ambitious, Dargerian, never-to-find-an-audience personal superhero universe; if I had a million bucks, I'd put the boy to work doing nothing but.

As always, the results were pretty spectac.

This is Beldam, one of the major characters in the 'alterverse'. She's a sort of amalgam of Dr. Strange and Wonder Woman, and Jon based this around the latter conception, using as reference an old pose by HG Peters, the original WW artist.

This is the Black Cloak, a sort of Avenger/Shadow grim pulp vigilante. He was one of the first costume heroes in my continuity. What comes across beautifully in the actual drawing, which is harder to discern in the online image, is how gorgeously the cloak is rendered here: incredibly thick, heavy and weighty, giving the whole thing a real presence.

Anyway, there you go. I like 'em.

Man, Jon does for ink what Terry Funk does for punching people in the face.
