Hold your impotent rage and press (D)

Headline in the NYT following the State of the Union address:

DEMOCRATS PLEDGE COOPERATION

Uh…because previously, they've been doing what, exactly? Not cooperating? As far as I can see, there's not a single issue the President has pushed since the Dems took power that they haven't given in on. They caved on Gonazales. They caved on FISA. They caved on war funding. They caved on Mukasey. They caved on an Iraq timetable. They caved on S-CHIP. They caved on Alito. They caved on the Military Commissions Act. They caved on credit reform. They caved on the budget, on Blackwater, on Guantanamo. They caved on impeachment. And now they're set to cave on tax cuts. I can scarcely think of a single thing that Bush has wanted since the Democrats attained their majority that they haven't given him, and this is against a lame duck president with no legacy veep, whose party is in disarray and whose popularity rating is historically low. More than ever before, they hardly deserve the name of 'opposition party', and for all their talk of 'change', now that Dodd and Kucinich are gone, they have pretty much no conscience, no standard-bearer to remind them in whose interests they're supposed to be acting.

If ever there was a time for a headline to read "DEMOCRATS TO BUSH: FIND YOUR EAR AND STICK A DICK IN IT", it's right now. But instead? "PLEDGE COOPERATION".

Just further proof that Jonah Goldberg is wrong: how can we have liberal fascism in this country? We don't even have liberalism.

You don't suppose this could be a legitimate ... strategy ... on behalf of the Democratic majority to generate goodwill on behalf of the Republican minority when they inevitably own the House again during the equally inevitable Democratic presidency? Or perhaps to assure that their legacy from the Bush years will be "We didn't stymie anything, it was all his doing ... ?

Because if that is the case, that's a whole new kind of dumb.

Christ, that's a frightening possibility, but I wouldn't put it past them. Institutional comity seems more important to the Democrats than actually doing anything (of course, to the Republicans, "institutional comity" means "pissing on their chest instead of their face").

two quotes I'm always reminded of
"Fit to be slaves!" - Emperor Tiberius, describing the Roman Senate of his day

"What do Democrats in Congress eat when they get hungry? Sheep food or dog food?" - Get Your War On

Did you hear the Democratic response? They have such a position of strength right now, and yet they're still imploring the President to "work with us" - get it through your thick heads, you fucking idiots, you need to go to war, not keep letting them slip their hands in your pocket.

I haven't been paying much attention-- who the hell is that? Did she give the sensitive, wimpy response one has come to expect from the Dems?

What's the best way to break up the two party system, and encourage more political parties? I think proportional representation in the house-where each party gets a percentage of House seats that matches their percentage of the popular vote-would be interesting....

the democrats need to learn how to fight tooth and nail for some power. We're trying to be too nice and inclusive. The last democrat who really got stuff done was LBJ, and he was a fucker.
