I wish I had never heard of the Open Source Boob Project and now that I have heard of the Open Source Boob Project I am seriously thinking about shooting myself in the face, but allow me this:

The fellow who came up with the idea, a fellow I mostly recall from having told a bunch of clinically depressed people to quit whining about being sad and get their shit proper, seems to think that he has hit upon a unique and revolutionary way to make the world a better place by getting women to wear pins allowing him and his pathetic geek buddies to rub their tits. While I can't deny the paradigm-shifting brilliance of such an amazing plan, allow me to counter with my plan to make the world a better place by running him over with a garbage truck.

Yes.
I do believe you've won the internet, sir.

I'm totally sick of it myself, and more than a little pissed off at the GET OVER IT sentiment espoused by, thankfully, everyone other than theferrett right now. At least, that's the case when he realized it wasn't just one angry woman, but many, many angry women. Once he realized he had just closed off a possibly infinite amount of opportunities to grope tits, he backpedaled. Gotta respect a man for being consistent.

Re: Yes.
You know, you'd think that, but in fact, I do not gotta respect a man for being consistent, especially if he is consistently a jackass.

Allow me to further register, at this juncture, my profound objection to the word "boobs".

See, that just shows you how differently two people can approach a situation. That guy, when he posted his entry, was thinking "I have taken a giant step towards making this world a better place." Whereas you and I, we read it and thought "Boy, somehow all of humanity, even people who don't speak English or have computers or any way of ever reading this, is somehow less than it was before because this has appeared in the world."

Funny.

I think that if you just opened yourself up to a slightly less subjective and limiting worldview, getting run over by a garbage truck cuold actually be quite empowering.

This whole episode is so bizarre. It seems like a "should have seen that coming" situation, but, like to the millionth power. How could it have seemed wise at any point?

Maybe it's a nerd con thing.

If there's one thing the internet is super good at, it is distributing to millions of people ideas that never should have escaped someone's head in the first place.

See, you need to demurely approach us and ask us if your breasts are worthy of being groped by strangers.

I'll give him this much, I think the resulting blogswarm was mostly amusing and amused, instead of OMG THE RUSSIANS WILL TAKE OUR PRON annoying.

The guy provided an unintentional jumping off point for discussing nerd sexism and how it's not always a good idea to turn a fleeting weird moment into A Project. That and all the pointing and laughing was more enjoyable than say, grousing about the privilege list.

Oh, it wasn't as bad as the LJ Content Strike or any of that horseshit, but it doesn't really do much for LiveJournal's reputation as the place where no one cares about anything that isn't stupid.

I wonder if he came up with the idea just for the controversy and to bring attention to himself...
that and his insatiable desire for boobige.

I hope my friends restrain me if I ever have such a badly thought out idea...

I just don't understand the logic that 'not wanting strangers to grope you' == 'sexually repressed'. Not that I should be trying to find the logic in this at all...

He's not saying that the women who didn't want to be molested in a hallway by sci-fi nerds were sexually repressed. He's just saying that the women who volunteered to be molested in a hallway by sci-fi nerds are not sexually repressed! See how clever he is?
