I always tell people that I'm from Detroit. People from Michigan know that it means "from the metro area" and will press me until I admit that I step foot in the city three times a year to go to sports games and in fact hail from the most whitebread of suburbs, people that aren't from Michigan will look at me funny and eyeball me for guns, and people from Europe will ask me about techno.

* I always say New York City, because it's where I've lived the longest in my life, and it is recognized all over the whole world (without a lot of the nasty thoughts people have abroad when you say "USA"). I haven't left the country since moving to Chicago though, so I might just say "USA" from now on. I don't know though.

I think I said "Chicago" a couple of times even though I don't live there anymore, because I don't even like to admit to other Americans that I live in San Antonio.

I know exactly three things about Rancho Cucamonga:

1. You live there.

2. The company who makes the brand of fake crabmeat I sometimes buy is headquartered there.

3. Its name is hilarious.

I always say "New York" overseas, but here I always say Jersey. I like telling people from other countries that I live in New York because there is more of a chance that they've been here, and they usually tell me some story about it.

Jersey is actually not the place where I was born or lived the longest.

I generally say I'm from Chicago even though I wasn't born there and I didn't live there the longest, because it feels the most like home to me. But that seems kinda pretentious sometimes.

According to the ESRB Ratings Guide, this refers to "mild references to profanity, sexuality, violence, alcohol or drug use in music".

I don't quite get the first one; how can you make a "mild reference to profanity" without using actual profanity? Like, is there a song that says "And then I said a four-letter curse word that rhymes with 'spit'"?

You know, as an aside, your answer to the last question kind of inspires something I've been considering on my own lately; Everyone and their cousin wants to write a children's book, but how come no one's lining up to do young teen books? Where's Madonna's or Rosie McDonnel's Sweet Valley High series? Where's all the writers and actors who sign on to shitty kids' movies because "my kid wanted me to do something they'd watch," but who'd never think of appearing on One Tree Hill? I CALL BULLSHIT!

It is bullshit because those pre-teen schmaltz-fests pay WAY more dividends.

Upon much self refelction (and a lot more self-loathing), I realize that reading comics and playing D&D is better than reading furry slash porn. Or regular furry porn. Or regular slash.

Re: uses of firearms, you forgot 'Defend against zombie attack.'
Really, I think that's the number one use for firearms.
But again, I am a Canadian.
Zombies attack us here more than they do in the States. Something to do with the colder climate, I believe.

I picked Madame Mao as my fave Gang Of Fourer, because anyone who (as one biographer claimed) triggered the entire Cultural Revolution mainly to wipe out the hometown from whence she came is cool in my book.

This mutual hatred of hometowns is why I claim Boston rather than farmland peeA as "where I'm from", having lived there longest so far.
