I dunno; they really did such a very thorough job of fucking up everyone who isn't them.
Man, I can only summon so much outrage, disgust and disappointment. On the Iraq war, I think I ran out... let's say three years ago. And then things just continued to get worse.1
1 When researching this claim (that I ran out three years ago, not that things continued to get worse; that I knew for sure), I came across this page. The claim was originally that I ran out four years ago, but looking at the timeline, I see that four years ago was when the Abu Gharaib photos came out; I was still pretty outraged then. Three years ago was when the administration started making continual claims that the insurgency was done; that's about when my outrage turned into a slow undercurrent of dismay.
Nevertheless, the figures for May are encouraging, especially coming as the United States continues withdrawing the nearly 30,000 reinforcements that President Bush sent to Iraq early last year to curb the wave of Shiite-Sunni slaughter.
All five of the "surge brigades" rushed to Iraq last year will be gone by July, lowering the troop strength to about 140,000, U.S. officials say. There are currently about 155,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.
At least 21 American troopers were killed in May _ four in non-hostile incidents. That's one more than the lowest monthly figure of the war set in February 2004.
Oh, and how many Iraqis died in a given four-year period when the misunderstood humanitarian Saddam was in charge?
Hint: During the 8-year Iran/Iraq war, between 750,000 and 1.5 million Iraqis and Iranians died. Oh, and WMDs were used, in case you forgot.
eep.
I shudder to ask: has that been seriously proposed somewhere along the line?
