Rattle in Seattle

The EMP Pop Conference was...okay. I didn't go to as many presentations as I usually do, because I'm starting to get a bit burnt out on the academics who manage to suck every last iota of joy from the music they're discussing, but I went to enough that proved worthwhile. The high point was Doug Wolk's cleverly conceived and brilliantly executed "My Other Body is a DJ" presentation. My own was sparsely attended, thanks to a Friday morning slot, a bad location, and a strong competition, but at least no one yelled at me this time, and both my panel-mates gave great presentations.

The best part of the trip was getting to spend time with friends, as it always is, but especially this time. kudaspeaks and fiberpunk were nice enough to put me up the first night, on very short notice, and while I wish we'd had more time to spend together, it was great catching up with them. We also went to Kings Hardware with calamityjon and superdaintykate, which was awesome, and I finally got to meet Justin Ison, whose LJ handle I don't know for some reason. Friday, I ferried away to hang around with janehex and brirobot and their house full of animals in Twin Peaks-like Poulsbo. We ate at a swell little restaurant there called Mor-Mor, and the next day, headed back into town for a Mariners game with hipsterdetritus. Sunday, before packing it in, we joined levide and his affianced for brunch at this place, which was one of the best meals I've had in ages -- if there's any way you can get to this place, treat yourself.

And good weather, too! I desperately needed some R&R, so thanks, friends, for making it happen.
